Davy, Nice one. I've got one too. You really must get the dial for the thickensser wheel though, it is soooooo nice being able to dial in a thickness and know that's what the timber will come out at, all with no titting around with calipers. It is specially useful when you have to run up an extra bit of timber because you made a mistake. Not that I ever do that mind.

Hi Nick, thanks for the advice regarding the thickness dial, I was just about to order a table extension for the thicknesser so will add the dial too if it's as good as you say. Pfft, there's another £180 to add onto the total Davy

A table extension! One! Sorry, but you need two mate, and don't bother with the short ones. This is not so much for the thicknesser, but the planer really benefits if you are doing long timbers. I've never found the need for an extension while thicknessing, after all, while you're standing around waiting for the timber to go through, you may as well support it yourself.
How much is that now? Wish I was on commission.

Ooh, Hammer/felder extras, my favourite subject.
Davy, I don't know if you need one on that machine, but on my Felder, if you want to make full use of the width of the table top, you will need to buy a small side extension so that the fence doesn't encroach on the table.

H,mmmmmm Don't get me started on Felder, I've got a workshop full of the Bl%&$dy things . Top tip for your shiny new Hammer, don't throw the disposable blades away when they are blunt, a good saw doctor can sharpen them once, and for less than half the price of new ones. So cheaper knives.

Funny you should mention that cos I've just mine through the Tormek which seemed to do the job OK but I havn't tried them yet. I was hoping I would not have to re-set the out table but that's not too much hassle anyway. I tried to take off the minimum just to get back to a sharp edge but they were the original knives not the cobalt ones I have in now. Mine is part of a C3-41 universal but an excellent machine in any guise.

Brian Ooohh lucky you, Tormek ;D Do you think if the knives have dulled just a bit you could sharpen them more than once using the Tormek ?. I'd be interested to know how well sharpened. I didn't have to alter the outfeed T on mine(Sold it a while back) but when I took another set to another doctor I had to adjust it, but it was only a small amount on the adjuster knob. But well worth doing over time you can save quite a bit of dosh and use it for....... erm other Felder accessories ;D ;D ;D ...

I was bothered about the clearance over the block itself as well as the table, but, as I said I will know on my next knife change.
He who has the most tools when he dies wins! ;D ;D ;D
