Sorry for another chain morticer post but i didnt want my question to get lost in all the other ones ;D I want to change the chain on the Ryobi chain morticer from a 16mm to a 12mm . I've been told i need to buy the chain , a carrier and a bushing . Is this right ? Each chain bar you have requires an appropriate width chain and a matching sprocket for that pitch and width of chain, so for English (Imperial) chain the same .54 pitch x 1/2in wide chain would work on all chain bars between the shortest (around 3/4in right up to the longest at 1-5/8in but would require only one sprocket. Doesn't the Ryobi use this system? In practice it is often better to retain a chain set of sprocket, bar and chain together as a set to even out the wear and ensure that the chains and bars (especially in the smaller sizes) are well lubricated between sessions. Normally the sprockets and bars will outlast the chains and it was apparently standard practice in production shops in the 1940s and 1950s to issue operators with multiple chains for commonly used sizes so that the chains could be swapped over part way through a shift to ensure high cutting rates were maintained. Scrit
