Nick, the Basic Hammer models have a square section aluminium rail; the "Winner" and "Comfort" models have a round anodised aluminium bar.
Unfortunately, no longer anything like rail in your pictures.

The rip fence is particularly poor and I couldn't see a way of easily replacing it at it sits on what looks like an ally tube. Think yourself lucky; I have the previous version with the alloy bracket on alloy profile - useless; this is on a C3-41 Universal. Even on yours I bet you found the PU wheel on the fine adjuster stopped working after 5 mins. I have one on a Hammer panel saw. I think Hammer spoil what is basically a fine machine with some unecessarily cheap fittings, also the moulder fence. It's not really a matter of cost it is thought and design. They probably do it deliberately to maintain the "elevation" of the Felder brand. Anyone found and easy way of keeping the half round washers in place while fitting the sliding table? Brian

brian, not done it in this case, but two tricks from elsewhere either use one of the loctites, like 601, or if not available, then some clear nail varnish will give you temporary stickage what about trying a robland??? paul

Brian I don't have the Hammer, I went to look at one last week because I am stuck for space and thought a combi machine was an option. In the end I've decided against a combi, I don't think I could cope with swapping over from saw to spindle and back all the time. Perhaps if I was more organised

If I were professional it would have been different. Brian

Hi I have a similar model saw about the same age as the ebay one. I have been very happy with it. Its Not quite an Altendorf but is well made and robust with solid tables and plenty of power and keeps its settings well.

Keith,
I have just got Felder/Hammer's latest flyer through the post and they have a 10th anniversary version of the B3 winner comfort (half combi) with the heavyweight fence and guide rail, so it might be worth having a look maybe?

Thanks Nick, I'll have a look on the web site. I had ruled the Felder/Hammers out but now I've had a look round at some of the opposition I'm not so sure. Frustratingly there does not seem to be anywhere in the midlands where you can see any compact panel saws in the flesh. I went down to Tewsbury saw co on Friday and it was a complete waste of a day
