For those who are interested. Festool now sells Domino biscuits which are advertised as weatherproof Mahogany biscuits. I don't do much exterior joinery but suspect they will be vastly superior to the beech ones .

Yep - the beech ones are very iffy for exterior use. still suspect that wedged through tenons are stronger and more durable, though Scrit

What interests me about this is that they are offering people the chance to make external joinery the way the sheds do . Scribe jointed or doweled joinery for external use is compared to a wedged mortice and tenon substandard joinery . If someone wants a cheap hardwood door they go to the sheds , if the want a bespoke door they get a joiner to make it and are willing to pay the price of a well made door . Why would any joiner drop his prices to make a substandard item of joinery Or why would he keep his prices the same and supply a substandard product The salesmen argue the point of modern glues but doesnt this make a wedged mortice and tenon even better than before

Wizer- To be honest it's had it's first serious outing this week. I'm making a bench in European Oak for a friend. !500 by 300 by 500 tall He's agreed to let me use the Dominos for joining. There are two adults and two teenage sons in the house and they use the kitchen to eat their meals, so it should get a good road test.
Jason I don't think the Domino can ever replace traditional joinery, nor do I think it's a tool for serious trade/site work. But I do believe it will have a place for the serious DIY'er and also for anyone wishing to experiment with new designs especially when joining any man made panelling.
