I have 5 sash windows to make for a new build so have to comply with regs . They want all the brushes , trickle vents etc . The last time i tried to run sash windows with double glazing in i had a nightmare using weights so i switched to the spirals / springs but i always seem to have to wind them until they are at their most and they want to spin off the clip Are there any other methods out there other than the above ?

Are you sure trickle vents are mandatory? Thought they'd been dumped?

Not sure , i will have to check Richmond council . I have found different districts have different regs . Or should i say the BCO has a different opinion of the regs

DG sash windows are PITA. I say no you can't have em. ;D The last time I did some (and decided never again) I had to cast my own lead weights, which is less trouble than you'd think and very useful to be able to do esp as you can do square sections etc for tight spaces. Save scrap lead, make patterns from wood, pressed into damp builders sand for a mould and bobs yer oncle. You can saw and drill it as necessary. Or just say no.

Just say no ;D 4k plus glass , i cant say no but i was cheaper than my local sash window firm that came in at 10 k They nearly had my arm ripped off ! Wouldnt it be cool if someone made a draw runner type thing with soft close

Jason,
I have used the spirals but not since I had one spring out of the clip and scare the s***t out of me. The sash was 40+kg and I was lucky that it was me and not the customer it happened to.
On my last set I cast my own weights using steel pipe and some old lead. I found it to be smelly and a total PITA. Jacobs method seems to be better suited to doing batches but I found the lead difficult to manage and heavy even with only a small pot load. I will be using the steel weights from Mighton in the ones I am working on just now. I'm using 4,16,4 k glass, argon filled and 25lb and 27lb 2" square section weights. The 27s are about 620mm long. The regs are different up here but it would be interesting to know if vents are in or out south of the border.
Cheers
Mark
