I need to machine a scribe joint on the ends of about eight 75mm rails and the toggle clamp that fit on the mitre gauge doesnt reach them . I was thinking of using a longer peice on the top to clamp it but just wondered what others would do ?

jason cant you fix another block, and then run a wedged piece to hold it down??? what i am thinking is a lump of wood say 300 long. put a block on each end, at the work end about wood thickness thinner than the far end, and then just whack a wedge in at the far end. paul

Jason,
What I do in situations like this is run a length of stock through the cutter to give the scribe along it's edge and then slot it into the profile you have already machined on your door rail. It should be a perfect fit.
If you now add to the length of your door rail by slotting into your sacrificial piece a spare piece with the same profile as your rail you will have a nice chunky piece to get your hands round and to fit under the toggle clamp on your mitre fence. The tight fit of the profile scribe joint will hold everything together while you rout your scribe.
Then simply swap everything around to machine the other ends of your rails.
Try it - it works a treat and is totally safe.
I presume you already use such a sacrificial piece anyway on the opposite cut to your photo to prevent break-out.
Cheers Phil

The scribe thing makes sense . I only use these cutters on MDF so no break out

Jason,
You could do with using a table inset around the cutter, that rail looks narrower than the size of the table cutout . Have you got one ?
