I have been busy again as usual this time making a fish tank stand. As usual it is in softwood and is designed to hold two tanks. Customer is going to apply the finish I am glad to say.

looks good mate, but from a practical point of view, how does it carry the weight?? from memory, water and glass weigh quite a lot, and two off them must be a fair lump what about the power for the pumps etc, and also how much space between the two tanks. paul

Hi Mailee. It is a bit hard to see from the pic but how are you going to get the tank in? Also how can it be cleaned - does the hood lift up? It would also be worth asking what sort of pump the customer is going to use as to what wires / pipes need to be run in.

Well guys the tank for the lower section will easily slide in between the upright posts so no problem getting it in. As for the access to the lid it will have at least 12" above to achieve this. I am not sure what pump is being used as I have no idea about fish tanks other than they are made of glass and hold water and fish. I do know that the pump will be housed in the cupboard at the bottom and the wires and pipes will be routed out of the back to the tanks. As for the weight it will be in excess of 137 kilos for the first tank and a little less for the other. All of the build is M&T joints and the shelves that will support the tanks also have 4x2s M&T'd into the frame too. It is a pretty sturdy structure as it has held my son and me on the top shelf as a test. Mind you when you consider most of the commercially available ones are made from veneered MDF or chipboard this seems like overkill. As for the magician side of it jfc, I just hope there isn't a clone in the bottom cupboard after wards like The Prestige. ;D I will get some pics once it has the tanks fitted.
