I've had an email today from this outfit www.aspirationalfurniture.co.uk/Obviously they are trying to sell advertising, but it actually looks quite a good concept. Does anyone know anything about them? Cheers Phil

I think the acid test for advertising is to put yourself in the customers shoes and see how easy it is to find your business without knowing your company name
Try it Do a search for 'Taylor Made Furniture' or " Bespoke Furniture" or "Custom Furniture" etc
and see if your company name appears in any searches

Well I'm not so sure I'd want to be in the company of some of the people there. I know that a couple of firms listed who are "well dodgy" cheap pine emporiums whilst there's one guy on there, in your part of the world BS, who's got a pretty poor "take the money and run" reputation in South Manchester....
I suppose it all depends on how picky you are. The site has no qualitative feedback from customers which makes its' worth somewhat less IMHO

I had no idea that was the case as I'd never heard of the website before, and I certainly didn't apply to be listed. However, if you look around you'll find well respected makers are there-- obviously excepting me of course, ha, ha. Slainte.

I am listed on several of these sites unwarranted - it doesn't bother me because it raises my search engine status but you can usually tell who's paid because they will a web link. The sites make their money by click payments.

Hi. My name is Alfred Hook and I make boxes and garden furniture. I don't know if that makes me a real woodworker, but I do use wood of course. I've been doing this long time though. I made some house furniture for friends, they were happy with it, but I wasn't necesarily, so I usually just charged for timber. It's a hobby see. So I hope that's enough for you to realize I don't know too much about stuff like Krenov and these other 'gurus' knock out. I hope thta won't stop me being in this forum and a big Hi to all. By the way Coulden find how to start new topic or thread like on the American forams, so I hope this is in right place. Alf

Thanking you Paul.. I think I made a mistake in profile. I put Man Hat On, but it was my sense of humour! I got no hair at the moment. Me and my mates decided Man Hat On was a good name! My daft habit, dDaft sense of humor. I'll change it! Hope you all excuse me, but I have to use Dragon 'Naturally Speaking' for typing. So it's a bit slow for me to make posts. Software doesn't work well always. Misses offers to check, but I try to get over problems myself when I can. So if my posts seem a bit garbled it's my stubborness; and the program. Sometimes I have a trouble sorting out words is why I use it. I think I messed up! So I am a Limey too really.. Anyway Thanks for welcome guys. Alf

2 things I don't like abt the site: "Bespoke" means "ordered" or "made to measure", but is used to imply "superior" in a vaguely snobby sort of way. In reality there is nothing superior about made to measure - can be complete garbage, except that it will fit (or should do!). And vice versa. In fact "bespoke" itself is an "aspirational" term - i.e. implies wanting to be superior without necessarily getting there. So e.g. someone thinking that a bespoke mock Georgian house is some way to have real georgian quality is "aspirational" and also delusional! So they both can be slightly pathetic terms implying "pretentious". Also illogical - if it's bespoke then it should be as desired, and not an aspiration.
