Is it possible to retro fit a brake to a SINGLE phase planer thicknesser or is this only possible with three phase. Probable a silly question but I have to ask. Thinking of the dc injection type. Owen

In a word, yes. Any induction motor can have a DC injection brake fitted. The brake works by isolating the alternating frequency power from the motor and injecting DC current into the windings for a set period causing the motor to stop spinning. Alternatively it may be possible (space permitting) to fit a self-braking motor which uses a mechanical brake and linings to halt the motor.
