Look what I collected from the ParcelFarce depot this morning. Two of Mike Wenzloff's beautiful saws One is a rip cut for dovetails and the other cross cut, both the same size. Mike used a really stunning piece of figured Bubinga for the handles. They are so silky smooth and comfortable. Here's one And here's the other I knew they'd be good because I saw the ones he made for Alf and Phil Edwards, but these are so beautifully made that they've left me almost speechless. It's been a long wait but now that I have them it's been worth it. Mike is a great person to deal with and he really does go out of his way to make you a saw just how you want it. These have certainly exceeded my expectations. Thanks Mike Cheers Paul

Apart from looking good enough to frame without a goudy homestead scene daubed on the plate, Mike's teeth are the best. Think he actually embeds a laser in the handle - point and a kerf appears. Enjoy. Steve P.S. Couldn't you have photoshopped out the brass for Jacob's sake?

Beautiful Brace of Sawing Goodness, Paul. Enjoy them - as if you need telling!

they really are a pair of beauties I asked for some help on saw handles recently and mIke was good enough to respond directly. My hands are too large for the standard fare on my S & J saws and it just so happens I picked up a board of figured bubinga from wetherby last time I passed. Off we go cheers Brian

talking of saws didn't one of you recently say your Distons sat on the shelf while you used a hard point for work.
I was thinking of this this morning when I had to cut a dozen 9 x 3 Douglas fir boards into lengths so I tried both. (In my case a S & J professional 24" crosscut.)
To my pleasant surprise the S & J was considerably quicker and, whilst sharp, it is not straight from the doctor. It was also a lot more pleasant to use and will be so much more so with a proper sized bubinga handle.

I usea disston to crosscut fire wood (it is an old version about 120 year's old dont ask me what model/bnumber etc I am not a tool anorak ;D and I dont know except its straight back with a nib also) BUT I set and sharopened itmyself and no word of a lie it cuts faster (I reckon twice as fast) cleaner and more comfortabley and pleasantly than a bahco bow saw. The bow saw's have no set and get grabbed in the kerf too esily on wet wood. The only disposable hardpoint I have any time for is the bahco profcut's which have a thicker blade, also the very little shark trim saw is great for doing tiny tennons, trimming spindle ends and wedges etc

how deep are the blades??? Hi Paul, The blades on both saws are 9" long with 1 3/4" usable depth. The rip cut has 16ppi and the cross cut 14ppi. Cheers Paul

Very nice paul - how long did they take from order to delivery if you don't mind my asking? I'm sorely tempted but wonder what I'd do when they need sharpening Steve

Very nice paul - how long did they take from order to delivery if you don't mind my asking? I'm sorely tempted but wonder what I'd do when they need sharpening Hi Steve, My order got caught up in all the problems Mike had when his computer system went down and he lost all his records, so how long I waited would probably not be a fair indication of the current waiting time. If you were thinking of ordering one it would be best to contact Mike for an idea of the current waiting time. It's just Mike and two of his sons making them by hand so it takes as long as it takes - a bit like a Saville Row suit really Suffice to say that I waited a very long time - but I would do it again Mike is a great bloke to deal with, is passionate about what he does and produces saws like nobody else. I share your concerns about the sharpening thing - I plan to do plenty of practice before a file goes anywhere near them Cheers Paul

Last year Mike took 3 months for my D/T and Carcase saws - I emailed him a few weeks ago and they have a 4k backlog on orders! He has taken on more staff and moved to bigger premises so hopefully production should increase?

As I understand it the additional staff will be doing the admin stuff, which should free up some of Mike's time to concentrate on the saws. Cheers Paul
