Making new sashes isnt my normal run of work , i may make 10 - 15 a year so every time i get one i am struggling to fit every thing in with the thickness of glass . I started using Mighton for the sash parts ie brushes and carriers and now the gasket parting bead . They also sell a router cutter made to cut the brush carrier into the timber . I think i will send that of and get a cutter for the spindle moulder made . Anyway , i have just had a run of five sashes to make so i thought i would re think my whole set up and start again . Normally i house the spirels into the sash rather than the box , i felt that this weakened the mortice and tenon so that had to change . Of course no one make an off the shelf spindle cutter to take spirals so i had to have one made I changed the glass to a 20mm unit rather than a 24mm one , bumped the timber size up to 65mm x 50mm and made the frame thicker to take the spirels I am very happy with the results of the rethink as everything is running nice and i even have room for a sash lock
