Hi all Has anyone had experience with buying tools from the US? Pros and cons please. I'm looking at buying some makita stuff, specifically the 18v li-ion stuff. could anyone point me in the right direction of any decent sites? Thanks in advance. Steve

I haven't bought any tools from the US myself but the price savings are almost always wiped out when you add on VAT, duty and delivery.

as davy says whilst it still seems cheaper and you can be lucky, you have to allow for the extra charges, as well as the cost of dollar/ sterling conversion. but of more importance is that you are going to have to ensure that the charger will work in the uk. paul

"but of more importance is that you are going to have to ensure that the charger will work in the uk." One of the sparks on the job I'm on has bought from the US and uses the charger, so there must be a (simple?) way to use it. Unfortunateley, he did'nt bookmark the site he bought from Can any of our US Friends point me in the right direction? Cheers Steve

Yes, use it on a site transformer. That works. Be wary of using them on generators, though
