Have you noticed i am ignoring Pauls attempts to suggest im a cowboy ;D If i had a brick built workshop i would go with the hotspot oh and also if i was tidy Ive already had one fire in the workshop started by a prat chucking a lit fag over the fence so i dont want to be lighting one in there every day . I also like the fact that i can pick the heater up and move it out of the workshop if i need to although this new oil one cools down very fast when turned off .

I've had enough of this cold already. I'm going to work in an office. Call me when it gets warm again.

well mine is timber / metal clad . combo and by the 'hotspot' I have corry galve steel to let the air flow behind it and cool it ! , behind that is rockwool, which wont burn I do understand peep's concerns tho ! O have 'played with fire' for a while, and am quite comfortable with it. - log stove in the house too, with wood piled up all around it ;D it does take an understanding tho - and yes , can be a fire risk if you dont understand it ! I have proof that rockwool does burn when a tw*t chucks a lit fag over the fence . It only takes a spark mate and you have one hell of a fire . Well i did anyway .

you're not supposed to blow on it though jase ;D i am sure that rockwool is not actually guaranteed to be non combustible, if you get into its fibres, it is only in one complete unit that it has some fire protection capability. paul

You need to get the flames about 20 ft high and have half the shed on fire

tests re-confirm - I couldn't set fire to it, even chucking a bit in the burner, it just glowed red ! must be different stuff to yours !

Having lived opposite the Rockwool factory for 26 years I can assure you the real stuff ain't flamable! It was made as the name implies from real rock - in this case a basalt quarried in Fife and melted down and made into the wool. Now the same factory use recycled glass. Glasswool? Are you sure the same character that started the fire didn't leave the stuff there as well? BTW, I've got the same oil-filled radiator and this will be its third winter. Good investment and reasonable economic on the 'lectricity!

Had to work outside today fitting a 5m long roller garage door After reading Jacob's post I dug out my old Musto (sailing) thermal long johns and long sleeve thermal tee shirt and was nice and toasty all day. Even found a bobble hat in the same trunk - just need to sort out some gloves that I can actually work in and I'll be sorted. ;D Steve

Like CNC Paul I have a "Hotspot" wood burning stove, which is in a breeze block alcove, and its capable of heating my workshop which is approx 130 cubic mtrs, (7m x 7m x 2.6m) but it takes an hour or so to really get going so I have a Sip Fireball blower attached to a 47KG propane tank to get instant heat until the stove gets going. The stove is also under a mezzanine floor so the heat gets trapped nicely under that rather than just going up to heat the roof. Also got rid of the roller shutter door and built a 4x4 stud frame with a 7` x 3` 2" thick hardwood door in it, so no more draughts ! As for moisture from the gas? Negligible, Also just bought an old fashioned enameled Billy can to keep hot on the stove ! The Hotspot has a barbeque type hot plate griddle as well, so might be time to try it out with some bacon, Ah. Instant heat, no offcuts or sawdust and hot coffee and bacon butties. Civilized workshop......
