I sincerely hope I tidied up after taking this picture as opposed to before taking it: Anybody beat that? Anybody get to the stage where you can't find a flat surface and you use the TS rip fence to bulldoze all the rubbish off.......

Yep! often have to sweep away the mess to find a clear space myself. Have to admit though I haven't taken a picture of it in that state yet.

I agree with jason, where's the mess ;D the real problem is finding room to walk to where you want to do anything paul

Surely if there's no order you haven't got any work?

Noel, Jfc, Dont know what all the fuss is about, messy workshop-- no way, I bet you both can put your hand on whatever you need straight away ;D People with tidy and clean workshops have too much time on their hands Cheers, gazza.

Cannot see anything wrong in your workshop. There are clearly some spaces still to be used. I think that it could be a trick of the light i.e. you have too much flooding in Cheers Tony

Nearly finished Colin , just a sand up in the morning and some glazing beads to make . I had to clamp it standing up as i have five more window frames to make so needed the work bench for marking out . I've lost three squares somewhere ;D There in there somewhere .

And just how does a tidy workshop inspire confidence ? I find it does the opposite for me and many of my customers . If i see a tidy workshop and nice clean vans i think its just a front for someone who's not really very good at what they are doing . Present company excluded of course ;D Ive worked for a couple of companies who like you to wear their shirt etc and every one has tried to knock me for money and never finished the job leaving the customer money down and an unfinished job . A good front doesn't mean a good craftsman and people know that .

Er, I keep mine tidy too, yes it gets in a mess, but it then gets tidied at night. I find it easier, quicker and safer to work in. And my customers, mostly Radletian ladies wouldn't come in if it wasn't tidy. So there

interesting, senior, not being a prof in woodwork, i see where you are coming from, but also see jason's point. to use an analogy, mclaren racing cars have a factory that is so clean you can't eat your food off the floor because it will pollute the floor ;D yes they win, but not always like this last weekend. williams are not quite so picky, but much better racers. i think personally there is a balance. if someone is making something for you, then you expect a little mess, the balance is the important thing. does your workshop look like you actually do anything, or is it a show piece. in which case you have a showroom. in the old days of course everybody had a showroom which was tidy and neat, whilst the workshop was just that. to some extent it depends i think on what you are trying to sell. there is room for both, and certainly i would like my workshop to be tidier, but to do that i need to build some more units, but first must finish the three ongoing jobs, so it is a never ending circle. it does however suggest to me that it may well be a good idea for anyone considering building a workshop, or converting one, to ensure that all the storage is in place before they instal the tools and do any work, that way at least you start with a fair chance of keeping tidy ;D and why should monday stuff you senior paul

I find meetings with clients and designers a load of b*ll*x myself . Your going to build it how your going to build it not how they want you to build it . They know very little about how things are made they just want to chat about the overall look . I used to spend hours of my time chatting about this and that only to have things changed all the way through the build . It's all a waste of time to me . Appearance is for your own vanity IMHO and has nothing to do with who you work for or with .
