Have you found that 6 foot long 1/2" drill or will you just go with cable ties. ;D Nice work and is gives even greater satisfaction when you can use offcuts. Will it be a square shade?

Very nice - is it just an inlay of beech half way up or more complicated? The grain of the ABW seems to change at the same point.

Very nice - is it just an inlay of beech half way up or more complicated? The grain of the ABW seems to change at the same point. The lower part has four pieces on the two faces that are in view, in all it took seven pieces to make up a hollow box section. The top shorter part was done in two pieces with the centre routered out before I stuck them together. The beech part was all one piece, with a tennon top and bottom, then a mortice was cut all the way though it, like in this pic It was all glued together except the base wasn't fitted then it was passed over my planer on two faces before sizing it through my thicknesser. The top beech cap was fitted the same way but I have to drill it to fit a brass pipe to carry the lamp holder. When I've got the bits I'll post a pic of it finished.

Nice LN, If you want a particular lamp shade I know someone who makes them. I wish I had known that several months ago Dom, We bought three cream parchment square cooley shades for other lamps and Lady LN didn't like them so we ended up buying three more slightly bigger, in all it cost us £180 might be handy to have the name and phone number though.

Very nice LN. Like the methodology applied in the upright sections.

Your Lordship
That looks really beautiful and I realise that you've kept the base small for aesthetic reasons but could that make it a tad unstable? I have visions of your elderly butler bringing in your afternoon tea on a tray and tripping over that cable, bringing the whole lot down.
And those dogs of yours would only need to brush against the lamp to demolish it.
I guess you could weight the base underneath to make it more stable if necessary? just a thought.
Regards.
