I have had to put the cutlery canteen on hold this weekend as I have been asked to build this: The brother of one of the guys at work died recently and he asked me if I could build him one while the stone one is ready. I bought the Oak ion Friday and spent all weekend on it. This is the front view and the small mount in the centre is for a brass plate. Another brass plate will be placed at the bottom on the plinth. Well that is now two hardwood jobs now looks like things might be changing.

Very nice Mailee, lot better than the few crosses I've made.

very nice, sadly not allowed in many graveyards, even if only temporarily. don't you just hate it when the modern conformists get in the way?? paul

Not allowed?? I know there are regulations regarding 'recognised hardwood' and preservatives - but if they comply, they're fine

Great job, Mailee. I had to make one once. My neighbour looked most concerned as I walked up the garden with it - I think she thought I'd done the wife in Cheers Paul

roger, in my experience it is the design which causes problems, not the wood. and i have installed a number of crosses, monuments, mausoleums and grave stones over the years, so have come across the various nay sayers. now instead of kensal green they all want lawns with a few sparsely spaced flat gravestones. paul

Oh I know - pretty which = bland and 'safe' no doubt. You've certainly got to fight for the design I know. Nothing that may offend of course, but we're pretty lucky that way around here probably.

I managed to get the cross finished. I gave it a few coats of Teak oil and also fitted the brass plates. I had to add an angled plinth on the bottom so you could veiw the bottom plate at the grave. It will take it's journey down to London and the grave tomorrow. I am happy with the finished piece but not the circumstances.
