Does anyone know of someone in the Somerset area that could look at and find out what's causing my problems with my band saw, i.e. the blade not staying true on the tyres I have checked for Co-planar I did change the bearings about 6 months ago but the top ones seem to have gone again so I'm getting new ones again!
I am completely stumped on the problem I'm having hence the need for an expert...

I can't help you with an expert but instead some suggestions
Remove/ retract all the guides and see if the blade will stay on, then reintroduce the guides so that the blade is not deflected in any axis. If the blade still comes off and you are sure the wheels are coplanar, then check the tyres for slight crowning. On my three wheel Startrite, the adjustment for the tracking is quite twitchy and requires patience to find the right position.

Hi 9fingers
Thanks for the reply sorry I forgot to say I have checked the wheels for crowning and they seem ok, when the bearings are fitted again I will try as you've said, maybe this time it'll work but I'm not holding my breath...

WHich bearing are you replacing? the ones in the band wheels or blade guides. Unless you are fitting ones without shields or driving them in with a builders screwdriver, they should last for years .
Check that the bearing part number ends with ZZ or 2 Z or preferably RR or 2R
R= rubber shields, Z= metal shields.
Where abouts are you in somerset? I go that way sometimes and could perhaps drop in for tea and sympathy and even to help?

Hi Bob I live in Minehead, I have already removed the old bearings and I'm awaiting the new, it's the ones in the wheels there's 4 of the little buggers, as far as I know they are going to be rubber shielded... If your down this way your more than welcome to a cuppa...

Well that is near enough. I go to Carhampton to see my step mother every now and then. Let me know how you get on as I need to visit her sometime fairly soon. Bob
