anyone used walnut from the far east, and if so for what and is it any good?? one of my chippie mates has been asked to do some stuff, and the client has shipped over some what is claimed to be walnut from i think indonesia. they want the architrave and such likes made from it, which is no real problem, i guess, assuming we can get it moulded. however they also want some wardrobes and other things made. not sure yet whether the wardrobes are built ins or freestanding, but wondered whether there was any experience out there of this wood, and its strengths and weaknesses. i have suggested veneered mdf for the wardrobe sides if built in, but wondered what other thoughts there were. paul

I have no experience with it but being 'far east walnut' it's most likely to be 'Dracontomelon dao' rather than a true walnut. It is apparently used for veneer and high class joinery so it should be up to the job but google it for more info.

Well if it is legally sourced i think it should have some CITIES paper work with it If that is the case then moulding it is no problem for anyone with a spindle moulder . I agree veneered MDF would be good for the wardrobes etc with solid timber facing it . If it's not got the legal paper work and the customer has got it to save a few quid i hope no one touches it for them and they are stuck with it .

its a reference to an american woman who said something like
"only small people pay tax", i thinks she made the comment to her phillopino maid
the american court took exception to the comment, im sure there are british examples

Apparantly Dom's butler pays more tax than he does. Well no actually, his emoluments are paid into a Lichtenstein account via the Caymans and as a resident of Monaco(our winter home) Hudson's taxation is minimal.
