[To me it says a lot that even John Brown, luddite #1 and Welsh Stick Chair maker, still used a bandsaw in order to make a living at it. Cheers, Alf[/quote]
Don't think he is having a wwbusiness, isn't it? some years ago he got his last salary from GWW, as a writer ;D

One other thought, Craig. Try to borrow (it's out of print now) "Cabinet Making - the Professional Approach" by Alan Peters. One of the best woodworking books I've ever read and, in my view, essential reading for anyone wanting to do cabinet making for a living. Not your average woodworking book - he talks about how to do it for a living and covers all the business aspects. Cheers Paul hope AP still has a 1000 copies; that will pay more than working wood he was the guy who had to sell his workshop isn't it?

PS: This is where you have all disappeared to. Nice to see all the usual suspects again. Yessir, we've even allowed Senior in, albeit subject to a lifetime ban........ ;D Nice to see you over here, Darren I ahve to agree with you about the need for some power tools to ake a living. Even a joiner really needs a rip saw, a crosscut saw and a planer/thicknesser to do anything other than grow a hair shirt - oh, and starve! Scrit

It's very satisfying to build something with only hand tools and the sense of acheivement can't be bettered.....but......it won't pay the bills.
