I would be interested to see the results of a race between a plane, and a power tool for this, including setup. Very similar to the race between a pedal lathe, and an electric one I saw a few weeks ago As others have said there is still a place for some hand tools even in installation work. For that reason my installation kit includes a few oddball tools, like a ratchet brace (North Brothers "Yankee", best ever made), a chamfer plane (yes, really - quicker to use than a router and more consistent than a block plane used freehand, IMHO) and a low angle plane (sorry, Rob, but mine's an L-N, although your excellent low angle block plane is in my kit of "essentials"). To date I haven't included a small plough plane but recently I've been sorely tempted to add something like a Record #044 because it probably could earn it's keep. But as for #45/405, no way Jose!
