I have used my Tormek wetstone for some time and found it excellent for cool grinding of all irons. I had my doubts about the lapping wheel as I thought it inevetable that it would round over the edge. I tried one of two but didn't really use them and stiuck to my waterstone for general use. Time passed as they say and I had occasion to use a 1" Marples Paring chisel which I had lapped and polished as instructed. I used 25Deg as it was a fine hand use only tool. To be fair it has acquired a few marks along the way however the point of my thread is that it didn't even cut with the handle on the bench top, let alone flat on the work. Nicely polished the bevel certainly was, absolutely concours , but useless as a paring chisel. Brian

being a happy tormek user i am surprised brian. looking at the photo it seems to me you have not actually got rid of the wire edge. if you rub you finger over the edge can you feel it or not??? i think you will. what i find is that holding the back of the blade against the top dead centre of the honing wheel does get rid of this edge, if you go back to the bevel afterwards to ensure you have got the edge removed completely. i have found a couple of time recently a little use means that what little edge is left comes back quite quickly, so now i then go back to the dmt and a leather strop. mind you i have found with more modern chisels 25 degrees does not work as well as 30. paul
