I have 2 Makita 6280D 14.4 v drill drivers and when using one it stalled and started smoking at the vents at the rear. Assuming I have burnt the motor out I have found a spare motor but anyone know how easy it is to fit? I don't want to take it apart if it going to be impossible to put back together. Anyone know if they are simple to strip and reassemble?

Hi John, I've had a 12v version apart a few times to fix a faulty switch and it's a doddle to work on, nothing complicated. The motor and other components just lift out of the half shell once you have undone the umpteen screws holding the case together ! Cheers, Paul.

most portable drills are relatively easy to disassemble, as long as you can get the screws undone, then only thing to look for is where the cables go, and how near they are to anything important. might be worth photographing as you take it apart, then you will know how to put it back. just like rebuilding a motorbike as jason says, might be worth trying whether it is the brushes first. paul

Thanks guys, taken it to bits but can't see any way to replace the brushes and they are not listed as a spare part. £12 for a new motor including postage so one has been ordered.

This is not uncommon on cordless drills. deWalt is one of the few manufacturers to have replaceable brushes listed for their cordlesses, although to be honest £12 for a complete new motor isn't bad Scrit

Can I ask where you got the motor from Johnboy. I have a Makita drill which is giving some grief and could do with a new motor?

Hi Mailee, got the motor from here www.toolshopdirect.co.uk/spares1.php/c1/108Just the first I found with a search, no idea if anywhere else is cheaper but the motor arrived fairly quickly and I thought £12 inc delivery was pretty good. John
