Thanks Mel but made me choice already and ordered it. De Walt 718 it is. Even if it won't cut 61/2" it should have a pretty capable capacity plus given De walt's reputation for quality my mind was made up. I do have as you know a few De Walt tools and have been very happy with them. Pricey, yes but still cheaper than a Festool Kapex. ;D Just need a set of dumbells now to get me strength up for carryin it. ;D By the way it's my early Christmas Box.

Well it's arrived ;D ....but........it was damaged in transit I think. when I took it out of the box which seemed to be well packed the mitre lock handle fell off!! it had broken through the pivot point. I called the company who supplied it and they asked if I could replace the part to which I said I could and he has popped one in the post to me. Good service I would say. Neil who I spoke to asked me for a serial number off the box which gives him the identity of who refurbished it and took the details. I was quite happy with this situation rather than return the item as it is pretty heavy and rather large. Now after inspection of the saw I am unsure as to how the offending item comes apart as the pivot pin looks like it is a drift fit on splines into the alloy casting of the base. (I assumed it was a circlip that held it at first glance) Does anyone know how the pivot pin is supposed to come out? Not sure if it needs a special puller or if it is just hammered out? The offending part:

Problem sorted. It was an easy job to remove the item and the new one will be with me tomorrow. Saw is great and like new otherwise. ;D

Easy come easy go! Just got paid from a couple of my jobs and it more than covered the cost of the laser guide and mitre stand so I have ordered them. Just don't tell the Yellow Peril, SWMBO If she finds out I won't get a chance to use them. Not bad as the whole lot has cost me 0„5610! ;D

Well the stand and laser arrived yesterday and I have been playing around setting it up. In the brochure it stated that the stand was made from lightweight aluminium for portability and after heaving it around I can only assume it is for a man with the strength of Hercules! As for the laser guide it took a bit of fiddling to get it mounted as they don't leave much room for the wiring and plugs. I thought I had trapped the wires at first as it semed hard to locate the top cover of the switch assembly but it is working fine now. I still have to set up the saw and laser but ran out of time today so will have another go tomorrow. Still a good piece of kit at a good price and I am sure I will have a lot of work for it in the future.

mailee, good luck, i have a 708, and that is only just moveable, and i agree the stand which i think is the same, with the extendable legs and length stops, is designed really as a two man job still they do work well. paul
