Hi Mel, I can't offer anything directly but a year or so ago I had need of a small piece of blackwood, Exotic-African-Hardwoods on eBay supplied what I was after - price seemed reasonable (I didn't compare it to anything though) and service was fast. I don't see any ebony listed at the moment but might be worth contacting them to ask if you don't get any alternative sources. By the way, happy new year to all! Neil

Hi Mel,
If you're not in a huge hurry, there's the Ally Pally show coming up in early February. If you're planning to go to that, there's a good chance you can pick up a small piece for a quid or two.
I'm sure that at the past shows I used to attend, there was always an exotic woods guy with a box full of ebony pieces about 1" square and 6"-12" long, all for between £1-£2.
I don't have any myself so can't help you other than that.
Cheers,
Lee

Axminster sell small bits of exotic woods but they don't seem to sell a piece of ebony big enough for your needs (only 1 1/4" square). If you are desperate could you glue two pieces together?
