.... Make your own?
Not bloody likely! There's too much on the telly.
I didn't know they were that scarce.
The version of 50s I have was the basic version - straight cutters only with a cardboard insert.
I was hoping to add the full set, though I do have a full set of beads in a Stanley 55. But I'm hoping to sell that soon as I use it once every blue moon and the No 50 is much easier to use.

Oh well, if you have no sense of adventure... There's Jim Reed; St James Bay may do them but I can't find them listed. Tool Bazaar gets their irons from Ray Iles, so might as well cut out the middle man I reckon - but I don't think he does them. Cheers, Alf

Another option if you don't like the #55 is to sell the #55 and #50 and get a #45 or Record #405. The cutters from virtually all combination planes fit the #45/#405 (including the beading cutters from your #55) and it's quite an easy plane to use. I find it nicer to use than the #50. Cheers Paul

paul, i know you hone your beading cutters using mdf wheel, but how do you actually sharpen the reverse curve profiles before honing? or do you just hone?? paul

Just do it on the wheel - goes from never sharpened to razor sharp in no time. Cheers Paul

Planes with a full set of cutters can go for as little as 15 + p&p! Which is why it's advisable to get a complete plane in the first place - getting just the cutters can make a "cheap" plane cost twice, three times as much. Of course the 50 in question is already complete (I imagine it's a 50S?) so maybe all Argus really needs is a full 50 now instead... Cheers, Alf
