As an update to my last here is a great link all about spiral balance - great solution jfc, this gives me another option to mull over ;D

I must admit it does look like an excellent answer to my lack of ledge issue - will hopefully post some pics in spring (excuse pun) when I am hoping to start!

You have the other sashes to copy . Everything is the same apart from the lifts go where the sash cord used to be and you fix them at the top where the pulley wheels go . You dont need the box part of the sash as the lifts go in the rebate of the window like the sash cord does . Everything about the sash is the same you just dont need the box .
