Decided to mess up some very raw, tree limb, stock on the lathe.
It is very dry, as i trimmed the tree about 4 years ago.
Cut an 80mm x 40mm round piece of Rhus lancea. Used a hacksaw to get a nice clean cut. Marked the centres and then mounted it.
Started to mark and shape, and as i was turning it started to look like some obscene phallic sysmbol. Finished it and at least it looks like a mushroom.
Has anyone else turned mushrooms (on a lathe, this is not the cooking thread)? Any ideas would be helpful. Tks Phil

I've done a couple, the big one is a box, the top pulls off and the stalk is hollow. Jason

Well, now have 6 small mushrooms, lots of shavings and a few mess-ups. The bone dry wood requires extra careful attention. Will try some in green timber when I trim the trees in July.

Well, the forest floor groweth! Now trying some green turning.
Started trimming some of the trees in the garden yesterday, and one nice piece of 50mm x 380mm ended up in the workshop.
Cut it into 4 pieces, and started turning some more mushrooms. What an absolute pleasure turning green, just peels off in long strips. Finished 3, wrapped them in newspaper, into plastic bag to start drying. Will change the paper once a week till it looks dry enough for final sanding and oiling. Will also get around to posting a pic.
(Note from Psychiatrist – “This fixation with the mushrooms is disturbing! Are you kept in the dark and fed sh-t?”) ;D ;D ;D
