Baked beans have lots of sugar in the sauce, which isn't good for some. If you can't get sugar free beans, do what I do. Pour the beans into a fine sieve and rinse off all the gungy sauce under the tap. Put the washed beans in a saucepan. Napolina tinned plum-tomatoes have no added sugar or salt, so chop up a couple and put them with the beans, along with some of the tomato juice. Add about two teaspoons of tomato puree for colour and mix well. If the result looks a bit dry, add a drop of milk. Cook over a medium heat, strirring occasionally to avoid burning. Serve on granary toast and top with Parmesan if you don't mind the extra cals! With apologies to Heinz etc.. their sauces are a bit sweet whether you are on a diet or not. So for me, this is a far better taste, than straight out of the can and takes very little longer to prepare. You won't want baked beans any other way after you try this. QS

Ti's true about the sugar in the beans, but there's another not so good ingredient, Salt & lot's of it . I tried a tin of the reduced salt & sugar ones recently and they tasted awful, just goes to show exactly just how much salt & sugar they put in... LOTS .

Jake,
Quite true. It would be easier. I tried. I couldn't find any. No one seems to know what they are around here! When I did find some, they were spicy. Strange as it seems these days, I don't like spicy food. After a curry, I would drink the well dry! ;D Cheers QS.

Fair enough!
I don't know where you are, but all big supermarkets have plenty of tinned beans and pulses whereever I've lived. Spicy is weird. They are more beany than Heinz-type ones, somehow!
