dragged it out and gave it a bit of a sweep out It is indeed a Coronet dont know what model tho Centers are about 25 1/2 - but could be upto about 26 1/2 if I re-drill the base mountings. it has had the motor moved or added. table saw attachment - and an arbor ? for a polishing mop on the end.] someone mentiond a problem with single pole bed lathes ... what's the problem is this any good I ve used it a few times and it works ok - but I have nothing to compare it to ! my dad added an extra end center so it can turn 30" so ok for tables. can I get a longer steel shaft - so the centers are wider ? I have a face plate with it so could turn bowls - not very wide tho. the face doesn't pivot so cant turn any wider than the center to the bed/pole so ... you thoughts ... usefull - or old rubbish ? can get a modern one for £100 ish , so not much money if this is holding me back ! some pics... Ta Rich

Rich, Stupid question, but with a single pole bed, how accurate is the alignment between the head & tail? Does it have centring adjustments or a guide built into the pole at the back? Cheers, Phil

its all aligned by eye.
does it matter ?
as long are you eye it up ok, your work is spinning between two points, you align your tool rest to the work - so even if the centers are out slightly you can still turn straight .
thats how I always figured it anyway ?
I guess you could set it with a square and spacer and score a center line if it matters

I would imagine that if your tool rest and tool strokes are parallel to the axis of the turning piece - it wouldnt matter if it was angled (in theory) at 45% off the end
might have trouble keeping it from popping out of the centers tho
