about to hang a couple of cupboards and thinking about using cleats. so any advice on the best timber for the cleats or does it not actually matter? i assume mdf is a no no because of the possibility of breaking the tapers. paul

More or less anything will do, depending on weight I suppose. Tip: sit the cupboard on the cleats but also fix through with a screw or 2. Or some drunken dancer might heave it off the wall with her shoulder, as I saw once at a party. ;D

I've done them in MDF in the past, still all up on the wall.

interesting jason, at what angle did you cut them, and how often have you moved the cupboards? i think the movement of the cupboards is the problem paul

i think the movement of the cupboards is the problem If you plan on moving them a lot, why not use the metal ones like they use on kitchen cabinets Cheers Paul

actually paul you are right, but for one thing i find it difficult to ensure that they are all in line so what i thought was to put a long cleat, then having screwed it to the wall, cut portions of it out, and then i would know for sure they were all in line then of course the only thing i have to worry about is making all the cupboards the same length ;D also i might well take jacob's advice and put screws in, but it means i do not have to hold the cupboard so much. paul

Cut at 45deg, how often do people move cupboards? unless the client is a bit anal and likes to dust behind them each week Jason
