After months (literally) of work and a few false starts I have finally finished the cyclone I have been planning to build since 2004. It's fibreglass and has the advantage that I can see the dust following a very defined path as it spins through the vortex. Unfortunately this is going to be feature in a magazine so I can't publish full details here, but I'll put a few more pictures on if anyone is interested. Keith

having finally obtained the various final bits from the late barry recently, i am looking forward to making the things work. certainly it worked well then. nine fingers i know has the big one, so it is always nice to see how someone else has arrived at a similar solution. paul

Keith Will the top plate have a "vortex finder" ie a flat plate with a pipe down into the cyclone. If so do you need to angle the feed pipe downwards which will slightly reduce the separation of dust and air? Brian

Brian The inlet comes about half way into the cylinder at an angle The beauty of resin is that I could fair all the joints The outlet is a length of 150mm soil pipe, it would have been nice to fit a spiral neutral vane but I didn't think it was practical in resin. The more or less finished article

Looks great - does it work? Brian ;D Yes it appears to work very well. After an hour of cutting MDF and with the bucket half full of dust, the filter bag had just a small trace of green MDF

Hi there
Three questions: 1) are you using this as a pre stage to an existing "normal" bag type filter (sitting in the enclosure to the right)? If not what engine are you using to provide the suction 2) is the inlet pipe 4" as it looks quite a lot smaller than the 6" pipe you've got as the outlet? If so was this just to fit with the existing set up? 3) Do you have any plans to make / sell more of these given you've gone to the trouble of making a buck etc?
Many thanks
Miles

Many thanks Miles Hi Miles, 1; Yes I have this connected to the Rojek extractor I'd already forked out for. 2; I used 6" ducting between the cyclone and the extractor to reduce the drag and eek as much suction out of the system as possible. The Rojek has a 6" inlet btw. 3; Unfortunately I broke up the mould getting the cyclone out, I didn't use a release agent , I thought waxing it would be enough but not for such a big mould as it turns out. I don't have any plans to make any more, I took a lot of guidance from Bill Pentz's site and I'm not sure that it would be ethical to start producing them in any quantity. Keith
