I was just working these out today and the tricky bit is shaping the blades of the shutters . Then i wondered if they need to be shaped atall . Am i missing some thing or will they just close at more of an angle than if they are shaped ?

surely mate the shaping is because they overlap each other when closed, so if they are not shaped, it would be a very wide fitting. remember originally these were designed to circulate air around the villas they were installed in, whilst keeping the light and heat out. i believe that the idea is that the shutters themselves should be no wider when closed than the depth of the side panels. paul

The size of them shouldnt matter as long as they over lap . They dont have to shut 100% vertical do they as long as they all close at the same angle then they will block out the light .

you just don't want to make them look beautiful ;D if they do not overlap, then obviously they do not need to be shaped, since they can touch at the edges, whereas if they overlap, then i still think the shaping is important. as you may remember i often buy fine homebuilding, and that always shows shaped shutters. personally i think they are like the individual leaves on a tambour they need to have some shape to look right paul

No they still need to overlap but even the shaped ones shut at an angle . Knocking off the corners will give a shape what i'm saying is it will still work without a shape .
