I have the older 14.4v 6280 makita with the 1.3a batteries. Either the charger or two of the batteries are on the way out. I don't want to spend alot on a cordless but was wondering if I got a 2.6a model, can i use these batteries in the bodies of the older drills?

If the battery fits and the voltage is the same then you shouldn't have any problems. The A/h reading is just the capacity of the battery.

certainly with the older dewalt stuff, you can use the 12 volt batteries in the 14 volt machines and vice versa, so i was told by a rep. paul

In a word, yes. I use 3.oAh NiMH and 1.3Ah NiCd batteries on my Makita drills and impact driver interchangeably

So long as your charger supports the voltage you'll be all right - the main difference I find is that my charger (DC1414F) takes twice as long to charge the 3.0Ah batteries as it does to charge the 1.3Ah ones. It won't do 18v batteries (although the 18v charger will do 12 and 14.4v batteries)
