I juts found a very persuarive arguement in favour of spindle moulders over routers in router tables, here. The spindle moulder is an SCM T130 which gives it a minimum of 5HP (SOME ARE 7HP) and it's running two panel raisers atop each other. Just note the speed and depth of cut. Even small 2HP hobby machines can take a failry big cut (OK, not as big as this machine) in comparison to the biggest router Scrit

very impressive - but much too noisey and machanised for me . but impressive all the same Spindle is actually a lot quieter than a router. Most of the noise there was the dust extraction. Without that the no-load noise would be just a quiet hum, and the load noise is generally lower frequency and less of a strain than a router. Panels make more noise than spars. If you were running 44mm softwood window rails/stiles through you wouldn't need ear muffs and you'd still be able to hear the radio. Esp on a big heavy machine like that. Smaller=noisier. Router=noisiest Thats a good demo - you can stand there all day and every piece comes out perfect. And safe - difficult to get your hands near the cutters even if you wanted to. I used to share a very similar machine T110 I think. cheers Jacob

interesting , I'll have to have a listen to one in action one day. I've considered a small spindle before , but then I built a router table and forgot about it ! As I am router table less at the moment, maybe I'll start watching ebay n see how much they are going for.
as for the machanised bit of my comment - I meant I wouldn't want to do that for a job. Thats not woodworking , in my book, its a machine operator.

Yebbut you'd get all your machining done for 10 windows and 2 doors, in an afternoon, and spend the next week or longer quietly putting them together by hand. cheers Jacob
