I have used Liberon Finishing Oil on American White Oak, but in doing so I have got oil on ceramic floor tiles. The oil crept under masking tape. Has anyone got a remedy please to clean the tiles and remove the oil?

having not yet tried it, i saw on one of the digi home shopping channels at the weekend, a product called stainzr out. like so many of these products, it is expensive and seems to be the holy grail, but the demo on oil and grease and deck stain seemed interesting. it is apparantly made from a banana extract, so maybe you could try rubbing an old mouldy banana on the stain and see if that works, then it might be worth looking at the product. what you don't want is something really strong and acidic which might well damage the other surface. hth paul

Are the tiles glazed?

Well, I've spoken with those nice folks at Liberon. Their recommendation is to use white spirit and wire wool. If that is not strong enough, use a little paint stripper to soften the oil and again use white spirit to clean off.
So this weekend, a little cleaning job, obviously with a little test before hand. I have a spare offcut of the tile used so I will do a test on that first.
