Hello all from a new member , Im a carpenter with a small workshop . ive got my self a spindle moulder and invested in Whitehill 96 x 55 heads and rebate heads plus 40 mm euro heads with various cutters, im trying to get into making replacement victorian styled sashes as im forever being asked for them . My question is can anybody advice me on the best cutters to make my sash mould plus scribe cutter, ive seen the CMT router cutters but im trying to make use of the spindle moulder ( No reverse on S M ) Ive got Various catologues but dont want to spend money on wrong cutters . Would be grateful for any help. Thanks

Hi Phil and welcome . Whitehill do window tooling , cutting solutions on this forum should be able to get you a price on what you are after . My self i use a rebate block and an ovolo cutter . My last job i have used the Axminster sash cutters www.axminster.co.uk/product-Whitehill-Axminster-Traditional-Window-Cutters-19800.htmThey do a scribe cutter but it doesnt allow for a tenon . P.S . Mr Grimsdale will be along soon to tell you how to make them out of old baked bean tins and a rusty file ;D

You'll be lucky to find cutters for the traditional sashes you mention off the shelf, especially the very fine glazing bar. Axminster claim to make a traditional cutter set, but imho it's not.
If your making replacements to match existing etc you'd be better off having some made from a template, a small piece from a window would suffice. That way you'll not be spending money on nearly or the wrong cutters.

I agree the axminster cutters i have shown are not a great match to trad work but they are ok ish . If you really want them spot on then get them made , about £90 for a set of cutters and limiters . I use NLS if i need cutters made , not sure if cutting sol offers this service ?
