Hi there, newbie here.
Hope you can help, I am currently looking to sell a Luna W64 combination machine which belonged to my Father who was a professional cabinet maker.
The machine is a Luna W64 which was purchased back in 1988 /89. I know that Luna are no longer in existence but they seem to be quite well thought of from what I have heard. It is in full working order and spec is as follows-
Saw - 300 dia blade, 102mm cutting depth Planer - 310mm wide Thicknesser - 235mm max' Spindle - 30mm, 3 speed
My question is do you have any idea of how much it could be worth and what do you think would be the best route to take with selling it. A friend of my Dad's (also a cabinet maker)suggested a figure of 1 to 2000 quid, I'm not sure if this is a fair estimate.
Any Help greatly appreciated. Christian P.S. I'm in Yorkshire if it makes any difference.

Hi and welcome . I'm looking at combi machines at the moment and it seems they range from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand . The main problem with your machine is they are no longer made so parts may be hard to get hold of . Anyone buying a machine will want to know they can get parts if things go wrong . You may be lucky and find the parts are still made and badged as someone elses . Your best bet is to look at the second hand machines thread below this one and take a look at the links people are giving for dealers , they may be able to guide you on price . If you have some pictures then why not post them . It may help with a price guide .

There's a picture here www.blocket.se/vi/17370277.htm?ca=2_sIt doesn't look bad and the spec is good, 12"saw and planer, 3 speed spindle etc. Spindle in a funny place though. Could be £300 ish on ebay praps? cheers Jacob

Hi Christian
I've had one of these since 1982, a 3phase version with 410mm planer. I use it every day and I think it is excellent.
I've bought spare parts from a firm in Sweden who took Luna over.
Assuming it's in good condition I would put it on ebay to start at £1000. I have to admit I've no idea what the current going rate would be, but I reckon over £1000 rather than under.
You could also offer it for sale on this forum and the UK Workshop forum.
Good luck Malcolm

Hi Christian,
You don't say if it's single or 3 phase, if 3 phase I doubt you'll get much interest from hobbyists etc, and any company or workshop will need to bring it in line with the current legislation which would affect it's price somewhat.
I would try Ebay and see how it goes, but don't be too suprised if it doesn't make 1K.

The picture in Jacobs link .... I'm not sure that it would go for over a thousand , well at least i wouldnt pay over that for it . I've looked at quite a few machines over the last week and could get a lot better machine for just over a thousand .

It's not Christian's machine it's just a snap from the web (in Sweden). Christian's might be in better nick (or worse : And a glowing review from opener. Starting to look like a good machine. cheers Jacob PS £1000 too high? Ebay the way to find out.

Hi again and thanks for the advise all.
The machine is single phase.
I had seen the previous thread about second hand machines and I will investigate some of the companies mentioned on there. I was also thinking that Ebay may be a good testing ground for price. So a bit of work is required now I think.
Opener, could you tell me who the company was that you bought spares from. It may be good backup when advertising the machine.
Thanks again Christian

I've still got one of these, it was my first 'proper' piece of kit but it is still in the workshop and gets used most days for odds and sods.
The problem in valuing is that they are far better machines than people realise, but you are competing with modern chinese crap.
I actually bought mine secondhand from Felder and the boss at Milton Keynes raved over it. He said that Luna were Felders only real competitor on quality and innovation until Felder managed to put them out of business.

I thought they were single motor with belt change. It was that which decided me to go startrite on my first macine of similar vintage. Belt changing is a pain.

My first machine was a much derided Maxi 26 with one motor. Belt change was not a problem, and quicker than function change on my 3 motor Minimax lab 300. I've come to think that 3 motors is basically a sales thing and that the manufacturers are not going to invest in one motor designs even though they are potentially just as convenient, if not more so, and cheaper - not only the extra motors but all that wiring and switch gear, all crammed in to a small space.

Hi Roger,
I'm planning to sort out pictures of the machine this coming weekend and it should go on Ebay shortly after that. I can confirm that the machine is complete. If you were really interested I could send you pictures prior to placing on the bay. If you were then still interested it may be possible to come to some sort of agreement?.
Hope this helps Christian
