Er, what's wrong with using a big screwdriver? There's nothing like a tool that fits comfortably in your hand

Er, what's wrong with using a big screwdriver? For once, I'm in total agreement with Mr Grim. A daft tool 'invented' when it didn't need to be invented...what the hell did they do in the 18th cent on all the woody plane irons? LN will be doing something similar soon ;D, just watch - Rob

What a waste of space - from a company that knocks out some cracking kit. I hope they'venot run out of ideas - I havn't got around to the skew rebates yet.

This screwdriver is interesting as a design solution to the problem; yer big screwdriver gets mislaid so you end up undoing the cap iron with something inappropriate. Their solution is a purpose made screwdriver. But being small, it is even more likely to get lost than the original big screwdriver. Also it is specialised, which means limited use. No good for other sorts of big screws, levering lids off paint tins, poking the fire etc. I give it 1 out of 10 as a solution. It has some value in that at least it is another screwdriver, so might come in handy for it's intended purpose, if you haven't already lost it. A better solution would be simply to buy another big screwdriver - or several for that matter, for less than the cost of the LN one!
cheers Jacob

Why didn't they make it to use as the front knob on the plane? you would never lose it then. I think it would be easy to drill it out and cut a thread without damaging the tangs that act as the screw driver.

They used to be available, drawn in "Ellis" 1900-ish book as very short London patern. I made one from an old flat bit (somone else did a saw splitnut one) as a 10mm scredriver doees not fit the slot very well, is too long, and not being hollow ground often slips out. A 1/2" hex bit fits nicely but has a 5/16 drive and no one makes driver handles of this size. 60p, but a bit (ha!ha!) short for fitting a handle.

The thin end of the lever cap isn't just the same width as the slot in the cap iron screw by accident you know! ;D

Ending up with a lever cap with a chunk out of the edge is also an option, yes.
Must say, chaps, your level of innuendo on this subject was pathetic. I got considerably more entertainment from the reactions of a group of ladies who should, theoretically, know better...
Cheers, Alf
