(pt2) OK What is this wood then (pt2)

OK chaps I must've gotten mixed up the other day and posted the wrong pic (removes tongue from cheek) Here are the pics I was suppose to post ;D (Hope you dont mind mods but out of sheer embarrasment I have abandoned the old thread to stop people having to wade through pictures of my old table complete with adornments)

Well I cut a small corner of the (infamous) table top off and then gave it a quick sanding - whaddya reckon - I am confident it is not piranha pine as I was initally told by the person who gave the tables to me (but he was adamant that it was), but what is it?

It has a sort of Douglas Fir look to it .

Impossible to say with such crap snaps but yes douglas fir is an option but then the next to last looks like a dense hardwood such as iroko or teak with an unusual pattern. Dunno. I don't do a lot of hardwood.

I would say from that pic that it is Iroko

Hi I have to agree as well it does look like Iroko. I have use section of recycled iroko in the past and this does seem to bear similar characteristics, to the wood I used.

My Iroko is a lot more brown without the 'mirror' images.

Have you looked at one of the sites on wood?

After going through the link that Jaco posted it would apear that I have two iroko table tops - part of Jacos' link stated that it was often used in laboratory table tops due to its resistance to chemicals, plus the pic above confirms what most of you thought!
