Now, i'm not very experienced at buying timber, especially hardwood so lets make that clear right from the start. However, on my way to a job the other day in Braughton (Hampshire) and I passed a sign for "The Timber Mill" and I thought that I would pop in on my way back. I'm not one for forcing myself on people so but for some unknown reason I decided to drop in and introduce myself and I am glad that I did.
I rang the bell and within a few minutes I was introduced to John, the proprietor. I explained that I was just passing and saw the sign and decided to pop in. Quick as a flash i was invited in to the workshop, shown the latest WIP ( a set of oak bay windows, casements in mid glue up) Then over to the wood store where there was kiln dried oak, green oak and then almost anything else you could wish for (from memory - ash, walnut sycamore, cherry, yew, elm, holly, lime, holly, cedar of lebanon, beech, alder, some lovely brown Oak, chesnut, hornbeam, you get the idea, oh and some slightly spalted beech which looked lovely).
Now as I said, I'm not very experienced at this hardwood lark, but I spent about 45 mins looking around the timber store selecting a few pieces (yew walnut and cherry) for some boxes that I want to make. Overall a wonderful time was had by all, well me any way. So heres the link www.TheTimberMill.com, no affiliation from me apart from being a happy customer.
If you are local go and have a look.
