It's very nice but the novelty is beginning to wear off - makes me go cross eyed and it takes up half my screen. Time to dump it? It says Woodwork UK Forum at the top anyway - what about just doing that but bigger, and pink or something? Perhaps a few discrete brass knobs here and there?
cheers Jacob

For once I agree with Mr grimsdale the Logo is crap
To big
To in your face
It says look at my new toy or look at what I have learnt to play with.
With the advertising banner its taking up to much space. Why not do a smaller one each side of the banner that way you don’t use up valuable space.
Better still produce a graphic / logo which says quality not something my old dad would say; its not good enough to be a prize at a penny arcade.
Not even a blind man would be pleased to see it while on a double decker bus on the way to Blackpool
Come on Andy this is a quality forum not something that you would put wheels on to take to the carnival

part of the problem is the free forum software, seems like it limits any real opportunity for a good design.
I'd be happy to setup a fully designed site for WWUK but then that might go against the general ethos.

If we took it away from a free forum then we would have to have paid ads to run it rather than now when just the staff are dipping in to thier pockets and calling in favours .

and if it wasn't a free forum then someone would own it and I think the idea of this place was to be owned by it's members.

I understand the need for the advertising to keep the forum economics sensible but this heading just takes up useful space. On my 16 x 9 laptop, the index page only has space for the first 5 items and only the first three lines of this message. Please get rid of this space waster.

Put a small version of the swingy thing in the header, instead of or under the existing name.
It is a waste of space, google-ads are a necessary evil, and allow us to laugh at the likes of Jaco every now and then, which is right and proper.

Come on chaps, lighten up! This isn't a Brain Surgery forum, I am sure I could find something more important than complaining about a 'MDF constructed, swingy thing' I rather like it. It's rather soothing, gently swaying in the cool breeze, reminds me of lazy summer evenings, sitting on a deck chair, working out my next project in 'Grained MDF'.

obviously having had my brain softened by using mdf ;D i quite like the new title however can't we make the gap between the header and the listings smaller?? there does seem to be a large amount of wasted family. paul

I have to admit... That sign, whilst a wonder of GIF animation - or what ever it is, is as bad as web page design gets... Now, if you play some music in the back ground or a little .wav when you go to the home page... then you'll really be throwing those design rules out of the window !!
Paul
p.s. I've had 18 years of user interface design p.p.s. I hadn't really noticed that banner before... But now... It's following my eyes... p.p.p.s. god I am complaining on my 2nd post - this is not good :-)
