Hi
Looking for suggestions of a durable weather resistant (it rains lots here!) wood to use for the sill of a new double terrace door.
May possibly be painted white, but most likely to be oiled/varnished.
FWIW the actual terrace does not exist yet so it has nothing to "match" - a project for next year!!
Thanks Mike

Sapele would be my first call, reasonable cheap and nice to work with, next would be oak but be prepared for the prices, especially super prime euro oak!

I like Oak, but as said Sapele is good if price is a concern and with Oak you must choose your piece carefully.

Hmmm, thanks guys. I was considering oak, but not sapele. Will look into it.
Dom - what should I be looking for if I go down the oak route??
Anybody know where I can find the profile of a traditional door sill??
Or is there no such thing and you just make it up!! I assume you can't really screw it up as long as there is a drip groove underneath.
Also, any thoughts on how best to fit it?? Attach it to the door frame and then install as a whole or is it better to fit the sill first and then add the door frame afterwards??

If you're painting it, go for American White Oak, nothing against English but in my experience it's a more open grain and more prone to cracking and twisting. Make sure you seal the timber. You will be able to find profiles online or copy an existing one.
