Yup. As Andy says, Festo = Festool, it changed many moons ago (maybe eight years ago?). Just a little re-branding to make it sound more international. Festo is a play on words (in German obviously), 'cos "fest" translates as "strong", "tough", "solid" or even "fortress".

I think TTS Tooltechnic, the parent company, which owns Festool, Tanos (the systainer people) and Protool and maybe others, was floated off from what is still Festo - the pneumatics company.

Fezer & Stoll hence Festo. Commonly held opinion that the older stuff is more solid and less gimmicky than the new. What is it ? Matt

like many german companies, it was a family organisation. when one of the founders died about 8 years ago, the will required the company to be split off. hence the renaming of the "portable machinery division " as festool. paul

tnaf and modernist. NO i am not trying to take over from scrit. i asked some questions a couple of years ago, and got some answers in relation to this. it also relates to what other things i am interested in, in that some years ago the german inheritance laws changed in the same way that last year the rules for small businesses selling out in the uk changed last year. this meant that in germany many of the old fashioned family firms had to be split to ensure any kind of survival. in this country of course the example we know about is the selling of brimarc to axminster because of the increased tax costs in the uk. would that i had but 1% of scrit's knowledge and skill, but being an old bugger, and having worked in a number of areas, i have a wide range of interests and knowledge: would that i was as skilled as i would like in terms of woodworking though. paul

as i said it is due to the diversity of my activities and knowledge here are a couple of photos of something i have just designed for a mate. it is a 4mm scale great central railway robinson self trimming tender, this is the built up test etch, and fortunately, there is little wrong with it before we go to production. we have devised a few interesting tricks to make it even easier to build. but most importantly my mate/client is happy with the basics and thinks it will make a decent kit for him to sell. ;D paul
