Lynx
He has a spindle, planer/thicknesser and a saw, all Felder.

I think the felder spindle is very good. It is not quite so heavy as the wadkin but probably better in terms of available add ons and heavy enough I think.

Jon. Thanks for the links. Sorry for the confusion but i don't own the EQ anymore. This is why i'm not sure if something like the Sedgewick SM4 with the sliding table is worth a shot or the F700 felder with outrigger table. The felder is nearly twice the price but it does have the tilting spindle, which I'm not sure warrants the price difference.

FWIW, I wouldn't buy a fixed spindle again having owned 2 tilting spindles, having said that a lot depends on what the bulk of the spindle work your doing.
If your looking at a Felder 700 why do you need an outrigger ?. You can tenon without, just get the tenoning kit ( safety fence, tenon hood, short Xcut fence and tenon plate) and your away. If you make large heavy items you'll definitely need the table extensions as well.
If you still want an outrigger you would be as well to get the longer sliding XRoll table imho so you can mould large items, the outrigger is very limited with the standard 1mt slider (it doesn't give you 1mt of travel).
You could buy a s/hand Sedgwick moulder or SCM and a s/hand single ended tenoner for less than the Felder.

When i was looking for a spindle i was considering the felder but instead went for a sedgwick sm4 and a used multico tenoner it works well for me as you can leave both machines set up for the job without changing tooling too much. Most of my tooling is whitehill and it is easy to match up the tenoner tooling with the spindle tooling. I was also considering this. www.moretens.co.uk/Machines/MF30.htmThe machine seems very versatile and has a built in tenoning table. I have checked one out at the woodmex exhibition a couple of years ago and it is very well built. jon

Give it a few weeks and I'll post a user verdict as I've got an MF30 on order at the moment . Salvage

Salvage, what sort of price is the MF30?
I've seen a Wilson FX for just over a grand, has a large 7.5HP motor but it's not a tilter. Going to have a look around W8 the weekend and decide then. Problem with spindle purhasing, if you blow your budget on the machine your stuck with no money for the vast amount of tooling required.

Problem with spindle purhasing, if you blow your budget on the machine your stuck with no money for the vast amount of tooling required. Bit pricey m8 @ £2800............BUT Its a good option for me as I have limited space and this machine is Very versatile and relatively compact In all honesty to say it's just a tilting spindle moulder would not be representative of its capabilities I come from an engineering background and to me it has more in common with a universal milling machine It's not likely to appeal to everyone as we all have different requirements from our equipment , mine are probably less conventional than some . I took some time to consider what processes I could perform using this bit of kit and how I would achieve the same thing using other tools - to me the answer was MF30 , To someone who would use it solely as a spindle moulder it would not be the best solution as I'm sure many here will agree , but it's worth taking the time to make a judgement for yourself Salvage
