I seem to recall reading recently that it is illegal to export it from India and Thailand and since last year Burma. I believe that an alternative Sudanese Teak? is or will be available.
If I can find the link I will post it if of any interest

Teak from Africa isn't on the CITES list and so that could be a source for the future. From my limited experience in West Africa, the problem is that all the big trees have gone and it is therefore difficult to get larger boards. Ghana is certainly growing teak commercially and I brought back a bit of native teak.

It was the case that Burmese Teak (a different species) was on CITES,but yer bog standard Tect. Grandis was not considered to be endangered (anywhere). Maybe that has changed?
Interesting Steve - I always thought that African teak was Afromosia/Afzelia etc, but I see that's wrong and it is native in tropical Africa as well...
