My good friend MarkW has posted a thread over there about stair making and specifically about the jigs involved.
I wondered if you guys had any useful comments

If it is a "one off" surely you would be better off to knock one up out of MDF?

Don't rise to it.
This is the sort of thing that you can pick up either new or used on ebay and then sell it for not a lot of difference.
I have used the Trend one for what it's worth, and it works. Not a lot more to say than that really. They are pretty simple.

All these puns, when all is required to string a few words together about making stairs. Not meaning to put anyones nose out of joint, but trying to wedge in some veild references to stairs is raily starting to wind me up. It's turning an otherwise informative tread into a steaming pile of BalustersIf members can't curtail their childish puns, I'll be going to form a newel forum where we riser above the common folk. Pitch in if you have any thoughts. Not wanting to rake over hot coals or anything. www.stairplan.com/terminology.htmJ

Ive just had a peek over there and he says his stair case is shot . A staircase needs very little doing to it to make it as good as new , re wedge , new glue blocks and new nosings and its done . Even if he makes new treads and risers it easier than replacing the whole thing . Unless of course the strings are split .

Many thanks guys. I will pass on your comments.
I can understand the want to replace the lot. Start afresh as it were and learn a new skill to boot.
