In this month's FWW (Issue 196) Christian Becksvoort has an article about making 'Authentic Shaker Knobs' which is an interesting read. However looking at the last photo in the article, he has two rows of holes on the inside face of a drawer, and I got to wondering what he would want to do that for, and, whatever the reason, how 'authentic' is that? I was also heartened to see the (lack of) fit in the dovetailed carcase members, and drawers in the first photo. But that's just me being nasty. ;D

Hmmm you need to pay to see that site I can only assume the holes are for airflow ?

Maybe its for some kind of racking/ filing ie pins holding panels like shelves.
Seems odd though and cumbersome if thats the case.
Cheers

You have to PAY!! Can you extract the article so we can all see it?
cheers Jacob PS the Shakers didn't ever make "authentic shaker knobs" - they just made "knobs"

Sorry folks, I don't have the technology to extract the pictures. A subscription to Finewoodworking.com is only $34.95, or $14.95 if you're a subscriber to the mag.

Here is a picture of the knob in question. Described in the article as 'mushroom shaped'. Just hope that it isn't Oak Steve
