so browsing during the week, i saw argos were selling a canon powershot a470 at half price this week, nipped down to the local one, and none in stock, anywhere locally. back home went on line, and found they had some in stock there. although i shouldn't really have knocked my overdraft limit, i bought one for 56 quid delivered within 2 days. so i tested it out. earlier this year, colin cott returned my mandolin on which he had done a little fettling, cracks repaired, etc, so here are 4 photos, my first attempts with this camera, in not ideal situation, but not i think too bad. i think you will agree not at all bad quality photos even if the photographer aint that good ;D so if you are looking for a decent compact digital camera, even at full price, this 7mega pixel item is to me a not bad purchase. takes sd cards, and looks like it will take hc sd cards too. paul

just goes to show the massive improvement in quality of small digi cameras in the last 10-15 years. those pictures were not at the top resolution available on the camera, rather the lowest, and with some zoom, indoors. a friend reviewed them, and he is quite a skilled photographer, he was certainly impressed by the details visible, and the grain patterns. now i have to both learn to take pictures ;D and post them properly paul

got a battery charger and some batteries plus a couple of 1gb sd cards today. very pleased with the charger, and the service if you need some camera accessories try 7dayshop.com 4x 2800 aa batteries 4.99 plus postage, charge plus 4x2500 batteries 14.99 plus postage. under 18.00 no vat... sd cards from 4.99 per 1gb. certainly a decent service comes over from guernsey. paul
