My bathroom door is binding at the hinge.
What efficacious and bodacious cures would the team recommend?

Love the title ;D Sounds like they could be set too far into the door or frame, in which case packing them out with a thin piece of card would probably sort it out. Cheers Paul

The hinges on the door do seem to be set quite deep. Also the screwheads on the jamb may be projecting - the countersinks look wrong. Thanks for the advice.

Also the screwheads on the jamb may be projecting - the countersinks look wrong. Yes, that's quite a common problem when previous owners have fitted the wrong screws. If when you replace the old screws you find that the screw holes in the door/frame are a bit enlarged, I've found the best solution is to drill them out and glue in a fibre rawl plug. Gives a very firm fixing. Cheers Paul

Thing is to find out what exactly is binding - you do this by slipping in a bit of cartridge paper or similar, about the size of a fag paper, and closing the door on it to see if it catches the paper. Try this in different places. On old doors it can be the accumulation of paint. Worse at this time of year due to damp air and expansion. cheers Jacob
