I'm fitting white oak stair parts (handrails spindles etc.) for my sister. What sort of finish would people recommend. The parts I'm using are from the burbidge range - the stop chamfer design. Any other tips would be appreciated too Thanks in advance, Steve

Have a look at osmo polyx. I've only used it once and it was v. good. I know that many others recommend it. rgds Stu

I use a mix of Danish oil and polyurethane varnish. I oiled a staircase once, the guy was a car mechanic, and after a few weeks the handrail was black; I had to go back, sand it all off and polyurethane it

I have done quite a few stairs in osmo polyx oil with no problems. The first time i used it was about 4 years ago on my brothers oak stairs and it still looks as good today as when it was installed. I have recently started using Fiddes Hardwax Oil which I actually prefer to osmo.

Thanks for the replies - I will see if brewers have either osmo polyx or the fiddes in stock - I guess that B&Q wouldn't stock this sort of stuff. will post a pick of the end result.
Cheers,
Steve

Steve, you can get the Fiddes stuff delivered direct and they were always prompt, follow the instructions carefully if you use PolyX
